A true devotion to the craft stems from an intense satisfaction of turning conception into reality. I Dafydd Owain Hughes am a mastercaver and have been in the trade of woodcarving for 25 years, I was trained by my father Emyr Hughes who was also a mastercaver for many years, working on many varied commisions; restoration of fire damage Windsor Castle, carved picture frames for paintings at Hampton Court, replacements of fire surrounds for Newton House, Llandeilo, for the National Trust, carved portical for Stackpole House for the National Trust. Also have completed some exciting commissions for Marianna Kennedy a highly sought interior designer from Spitalfields, London.All the commissions are handcarved with woodcarving chisels and in the traditional way.I aim to endeavour to keep traditional handcarving/woodcarving alive in modern world, and endeavour to create bespoke and traditional commissions to the best of my abilities.
